I’ve had a really busy past few weeks, and haven’t been getting as much rest as I probably ought to, so I’ve decided to take a short pause on this project. I don’t know how long it’ll last, and it might not be a full pause (i.e. I might just move to a more sporadic upload schedule for a couple weeks), but I think it’s necessary for the moment. I also have a few cool big projects in the works which I’ll update you all about soon! Thanks guys 🙂

Something beautiful: A poem from a friend
.
Apologies for the weird upload schedule this week; I’ve simply been crazy busy. However, I was shown this simple poem from a friend the other day, and I wanted to share it with you.

Meditation: Angry Men (see John 2:13-22, Luke 22:49-51)
.
There’s been a lot of talk in the past few days about masculinity following and gillette’s “The Best Men Can Be” ad. While it is certainly an ad, and they will be making money from the discussion they’re raising, I still believe that it’s a good thing that they’ve involved themselves this way. As men, we need to understand just what masculinity really means, and what it doesn’t. For example, growing up, my dad would tell me stories about how angry he used to get when he was younger; he wasn’t advocating it, but I still began to see anger as something that was cool, powerful, and masculine. My own experiences however, have shown be just how untrue this is. I’ve been made far too aware of just how many people have been damaged by angry men, and that no matter how much good you want for someone, how good a friend you are to them, or how righteous your indignation, when you get angry, all they see is another angry man. There are times for anger, but there are far more for love, kindness, and humility. It is those times we need to look for. There may be times to set our hands to flipping the tables of the temple, but I believe that true masculinity is in the healing that those same hands bring.

Meditation: Stars in My Eyes (see Psalm 8)
.
I had a great night tonight as a part of Power to Change/RZIM’s event, “What Does It Mean to Be Human?”; between my fellow *cough*incredibly talented*cough panelists, the sheer amount of new faces I got to see and meet, and the great feedback and conversations I had about my art, it was an incredibly impactful experience. However, the thing that probably connected with me the most was Sam Allbery’s comment that we as humans have a unique status of being both dignified and humbled. God has given us an incredible responsibility to care for this planet (as Josh Tiessen so aptly addressed), but at the same time, we stand like David, looking up at the sky in wonder, humbled by the intense majesty of God’s creation. It’s daunting, and it’s terrifying, and it’s fantastic, and it’s confusing, but above all, it is good.
.
“What Does It Mean to Be Human?” is one in a series of talks and events going on this week at UofT, all focused on the question of “Is God relevant?” I highly encourage any Toronto folks to come on out and see for yourselves. Check out the link in my bio for more info.
